Air-to-Air BVR Duel, 1975

This series of Quick Battles is intended to serve as a laboratory to examine how technology, tactics, and doctrine affect Beyond Visual Range (BVR) fighter-versus-fighter combat in CMO.

This plane set represents peak third-generation fighter technology, circa 1975. Note that head-on duels between SARH missile-armed fighters can come down to a game of ‘chicken’, since evading an adversary’s missiles can also cause one’s own missiles to break lock and miss. This makes the ‘Automatic Evasion’ Doctrine Setting critical, as well as planning when to fire one’s own missiles.
